Code of Conduct

Minor Incidents

Minor incidents are everyday school disruptions that interrupt learning or safety without intending to hurt anyone. Since these actions usually come from simple mistakes or getting overly excited rather than trying to cause trouble, explaining them focuses on finding the distraction, sticking to school rules and expectations, and gently helping students get back on track.

Consequence

Step 1: Immediate redirection and reminder of rules and expectations
Step 2: If behaviour requires multiple interventions, an incident report will be written but not necessarily sent home. 3 repeated incident reports for the same offence= teacher communicates with parents
Possible consequences:
Accountability room (am/pm recess)
Lunch time with teacher
Time out during lunch recess

Major Incidents

Major incidents are serious, deliberate behaviours that disrupt the school and put students or staff at risk. These actions go beyond breaking school rules because they stem from strong emotions or intentionally breaking boundaries. As a result, explaining a major incident focuses on safety, identifying what triggered it, and carrying out clear steps, restorative actions, and support plans to keep the school safe.

Consequence

Step 1: Ensure safety of student and staff
Step 2: Remove student and place under adult supervision
Step 3: Complete the incident report and send home
1 major = Oasis/Office & walk with a supervisor at next recess
2 majors = Oasis/Office & walk with a supervisor for recesses and lunch
3 majors = Parent pick up student

Physical Assault

Severe incidents are the most extreme behaviours that threaten safety and require immediate intervention. Because these actions violate safety standards for staff and students, they go beyond school discipline.

Consequence

The student goes home.

Meeting upon return to establish expectations and welcome student back.
