Our Region

A Rich Cultural Crossroads

Welcome to the Eastern Townships (or Les Cantons-de-l’Est), one of the most breathtaking regions in Quebec and Canada.

The Eastern Townships area is a picturesque, hilly region in southeastern Quebec, nestled between the St. Lawrence Lowlands and the United States border. Located roughly 45 to 90 minutes from Montreal, it is famous for its combination of French-Canadian charm, New England coziness, rich Loyalist history, and vibrant, nature-filled landscapes.

The Eastern Townships offers an Anglo-Saxon Heritage: Originally settled by American Loyalists, British, Irish, and Scottish pioneers, the region retains a unique bilingual feel.

Where Nature Meets New Adventures

If you are coming to study for a few months, you aren’t just choosing a school—you are choosing an unforgettable backdrop for your international adventure.

It is characterized by rolling Appalachian foothills and sparkling lakes like Memphrémagog, Massawippi, and Magog. The region is a four-season paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, featuring major mountain resorts for skiing and mountain biking such as Bromont, Sutton, and Owl’s Head as well as national parks like Mont-Orford and Frontenac. Our region is home to the world’s first International Dark Sky Reserve at Mont-Mégantic, making it a prime destination for stargazing.

Safe & Welcoming Communities

The Eastern Townships are famous for offering safe, secure, and tight-knit learning environments where French and English traditions beautifully intertwine.

Major cities are Sherbrooke, Granby and Magog featuring universities, museums, and a lively urban lifestyle alongside beautiful nature. We have storybook villages: Quaint historic towns like North Hatley, Sutton, Brome Lake, boast Victorian architecture, antique shops, and art galleries.

Whether you find yourself in the bustling city of Sherbrooke or one of our picturesque surrounding towns, you will be surrounded by a community that is famously friendly, helpful, and welcoming to international visitors.

As an international student, this is the ultimate environment to immerse yourself in French culture and practice your language skills, while still feeling entirely comfortable in an open, bilingual atmosphere.
From local sugar shacks (cabanes à sucre) in the spring to cozy cafes and local art galleries, there is always something new to taste, see, and experience.

Make the Townships Your Home Away From Home

Studying abroad is about more than just what happens inside the classroom—it’s about where you live, explore, and grow. The Eastern Townships offer the perfect safety net, a vibrant cultural scene, and an endless outdoor playground.
